This program provides an opportunity to meet the experts and discuss evidence-based medicine as it relates to the clinical diagnosis, treatment, and management of hypertension.
SYPOSIUM OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
• Understand the historic background and current progress in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension
• Recognize the common causes of hypertension
• Discuss recent trial results and their impact on the pharmacotherapeutic management of hypertension
• Outline the advantages and disadvantages of various hypertension pharmacotherapies used in the management of hypertension, including beta blockers, renin inhibitors, and combination drug therapies
• Discuss dose-response curves for common antihypertension pharmacotherapies
• Understand the importance of medication compliance, outline the risks of patient nonadherence, and describe methods for physician evaluation and detection of patient nonadherence to therapy regimens
• Discuss the merits and methods of drug combinations in the management of hypertension
