This program provides an opportunity to meet the experts and discuss evidence-based medicine as it relates to the clinical management of clustered cardiometabolic risk factors such as diabetes, hypertension, dyslipidemia, and obesity.
SYPOSIUM OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this program, attendees should be able to:
• Discuss the effects of obesity on cardiovascular risk factors, diabetes, hypertension, and dyslipidemia and the necessity for early therapeutic intervention
• Identify sociocultural and psychological factors that may influence the development of obesity and the responses that may influence the treatment of obesity
• Discuss the current guidelines for optimal management of lipids and elevated blood pressure in the high risk patient
• Evaluate the role of combination therapy in the pharmacologic treatment of hypertension and lipid management
• Identify a combination of pharmacologic agents and lifestyle changes required to meet guideline targets for the patient with one or more of the metabolic syndrome cluster of risk factors: obesity, dyslipidemia, diabetes or glucose intolerance, and/or hypertension
